Definition of Game Design

Game design is the art of formulating planned system to facilitate play.

Formulation includes the following:

  • Goals
    • Purpose: Why is this game being played?
    • Intended results: What will happen when this game is played?
  • Rules
    • Player interaction: What can the player do?
  • Rewards
    • Conversion: How will time and decision convert as intended?

Game: Systematized play.

Design: The creation of a plan or convention for the construction of an object or a system.
